Say hello to the cardi you didn’t know you needed until now, the Urban Chic Cardi. Lightweight and airy, this crochet cardi is sure to be a staple in your wardrobe this Spring.
The Urban Chic Cardi features stitches and chain spaces that are combined to create a beautifully lacy texture that you are sure to swoon over. And if the texture isn’t enough, the three quarter sleeves coupled with the side split will win you over without a doubt.
The simple yet complex stitching of this crochet cardi makes it super easy to style. Dress it down with a pair of shorts and sneakers, or dress it up with a skirt and heels. The possibilities are endless!
The Yarn
For this crochet cardi, I used my new favorite yarn, Comfy Fingering. This yarn is sold exclusively by WeCrochet and I promise it does not disappoint. When I received this yarn from my friends over at WeCrochet I already knew it would be a winner. Let me give you the deets.
Comfy is made from 75% Pima Cotton and 25% acrylic which makes this yarn perfect for projects that may get dirty or sweaty during the warmer months. It can be washed again and again without the worry of pilling therefore making it great for baby projects as well. Comfy comes in skeins of 218 yards (50 g), which actually goes a long way since it is a fingering weight yarn. On top of all of that, it comes in a large selection of colors making it perfect for colorwork projects, ya know, if you like that sort of thing. To crochet the Urban Chic Cardi, you will need approximately 6-9 skeins depending on the size you make. So go ahead and pick out the color of your dream cardi.

Yarn Subs
Now if you can’t get your hands on Comfy Fingering from WeCrochet, no worries! This crochet cardi is very versatile and can be made from any fingering weight yarn. A couple of great substitutes would be Hawthorne from WeCrochet or Simply Cotton from LoveCrafts.
The Inspiration
If you’ve been following me for a while, then you pretty much know the reason why I choose to create crochet patterns for garments. But, if you’re new around here (welcome <3) let me fill you in. Whenever I design a new garment, my goal is to crochet a piece that is modern, but also stylish on any and every body type. Everyone deserves to feel beautiful and what you wear is 50% of that battle. The Urban Chic Cardi is no different. Ranging in bust sizes from 34″ to 66″, and easily customizable if needed, it’s the perfect project for anyone who wants a fabulous cardigan.
Having an awesome group of makers to test drive a new idea is a major part of the design process. Testing allows the designer to work out all the kinks before the pattern goes live. I could not have completed this crochet cardi without the help of my lovely Designs by Key testers! Click their links below to show them some love, and to see their finished Urban Chic Cardis!
