Neon Lights Cowl: A Statement Layer for Cooler Days
Sometimes a design starts with a plan. Other times, it starts with yarn that is simply too good to ignore.
The Neon Lights Cowl came together after working with a bold, colorful advent that immediately made me think this yarn deserved to be worn, not just admired. I wanted to design something cozy and practical for cooler days while still letting color lead the way.
This cowl is about embracing bold yarn choices and proving that winter accessories do not have to be neutral to be wearable.
About the Design
The Neon Lights Cowl is a modern, statement-making crochet accessory designed for transitional weather. It offers warmth without the bulk and makes an impact without feeling overwhelming. It can be worn traditionally around the neck or styled hooded for a little extra warmth and drama.
The stitch pattern creates a strong colorwork effect while keeping the fabric flexible and comfortable. The cowl is worked flat and seamed, making it approachable for confident beginners who want to explore color without complicated techniques.
If you love color but still want something you can reach for on a regular basis, this design fits right in.
Save It for Later

The Advent That Inspired the Neon Lights Cowl
The Neon Lights Cowl was designed as part of Channy’s 10 Day “Sail to the Caribbean” Advent, created by Chanelle Nesmith of @channypeascorner, and honestly, this advent was everything.
From the moment it arrived, it was clear how much care and intention went into every detail. The advent included five full skeins of yarn, along with pins, stickers, stitch markers, and other thoughtfully curated trinkets. It was a true collaboration that brought together independent yarn dyers, pattern designers, and trinket makers, all centered around a vibrant Caribbean-inspired theme.
The yarn itself was stunning. The dyers for this advent were:
@channypeascorner
@mitchellscfiberarts
@olivefiberarts
Each colorway felt bold, joyful, and full of personality. These were the kind of colors that immediately make you start planning instead of letting the yarn sit untouched in your stash.
The trinkets included in the advent were made by:
@tsfiberarts
@channypeascorner
@ilaquinndesigns
Every single piece felt cohesive and well thought out. From the yarn to the extras, nothing felt random. Truly chef’s kiss.
When I was presented with the opportunity to design a crochet pattern for this advent, I didn’t hesitate to say yes, and I’m so glad I did. This project pushed me creatively and reminded me how special collaborative work like this can be.
Another pattern designer featured in the advent is @gettingpurlywithit, and it was an honor to be included alongside such talented creatives.
The Neon Lights Cowl was designed to let this yarn shine while still being wearable, cozy, and practical for cooler days. It’s proof that statement pieces can still fit into everyday life and that bold color absolutely belongs in winter.
